I've often thought it would be useful to have a list of instruments and plugins within Logic that offer a sidechain input routing. However, after searching online and delving into the manual, I could find no such definitive list. So I decided to make one.

Not only will this be useful for me when I'm looking to inject some inspiration into my projects, but I'm hoping that it might be of use to others. Feel free to bookmark this page if it's helpful!

Please note, this list contains stock tools only. To create a list of every AU plugin on the planet that offers a sidechain input would be almost impossible for one person to update! I will, however, try to update this whenever possible.

For a detailed guide on how to set up sidechaining in Logic Pro, check out my previous post.

For speed of reference, I've separated software instruments and plugins, and they're listed in alphabetical order in line with Logic's folder architecture.

Software Instruments with a sidechain input

  • ES1
  • ES2
  • EVOC 20 Polysynth
  • EXS24
  • Sculpture (also contains handy sidechain presets)
  • Ultrabeat

Plugins with a sidechain input

  • Compressor
  • Expander
  • Noise Gate
  • Match EQ
  • AutoFilter
  • EVOC 20 TrackOscillator
  • Fuzz-Wah
  • Ringshifter

I really wish that the Multipressor had a sidechain input, as frequency-specific compression is such a useful tool. For now, though, I'll continue to rely on third party software, such as Waves' C6 Multiband Compressor.
